Advanced Photo Editing

You’ve taken an editing class, and you’re comfortable using Lightroom or another editing software—but you still feel like there is more to learn to make your photos look their best. You are right!

Learning a software package is just the start of the journey. The next step is to learn what to do with it … and that takes practice. Just like learning to play a musical instrument takes time, so does learning to edit. The shortest path to growth is to practice, then get feedback and direction—just like a music lesson. That is what this class is about.

Each session you’ll submit edited files, which Rich will review during the Zoom session. He will give constructive feedback on what works, what doesn’t, and where to make improvements. This feedback process will help you learn to see what good decisions look like, build confidence in your skills, and grow your vision for what your photographs can be.

Then, you’ll apply these suggestions yourself and submit updated files for Rich’s review. This hand-on approach will help you work through the process, so you can learn how to make good decisions that lead to pleasing results.

This hands-on learning is the key to improving, and is the component missing from a self-taught approach. Photography is a skill that is best learned by doing it together with skilled instructors who can give insight and guidance. No video or lecture is enough on its own to teach you to see better. Experienced photographers became experienced by learning from others—and so can you!

What does this class look like?

  • You’ll start with ten to fifteen photos, edit them, and submit them for the first class.

  • Rich will review your photos and suggest changes.

  • You’ll implement the changes, and send updated files for the next session.

  • You’ll repeat this process for each session, as you continue to improve your skills.

By seeing your photos reviewed along with those of fellow students, you’ll develop the ability to recognize what needs to be done, and what are “good” decisions. Reviewing so many files will provide organic growth opportunities as Rich demonstrates solutions for the many problems photographers must solve. This will grow your skills as a whole and make you a better photographer.

By the end of class, your ten to fifteen photos will be greatly improved, and you’ll be equipped with more understanding and vision to apply across all your photographs.
